Nothing has taught me more about life than my time spent traveling and living in different places. By staying in our routines and continually seeing the same things over and over we become less open to the possibilities that are out there in the world.
On the grandest scale, it would be wonderful if everyone could experience international travel. You get to see things that are better than the way we do them but at the same time you appreciate the things that are good from where you are from. There is nothing like engaging with someone who has a completely different lifestyle than your own.
The interesting thing though is that you can have this experience in the place you currently live in. So the challenge this week is for you to go somewhere in your own town that you wouldn’t normally go to and learn about something you are completely unfamiliar with.
Maybe there is an asian or latino grocery store near by that you have never stepped foot in. Maybe there is a show or musical act that you aren’t sure you would be interested in that you could attend. Maybe a new art gallery that you haven’t seen before.
The point is to learn something different about something that has been right under your nose the whole time. What did you learn? What did you observe about a lifestyle that you had no idea was being lived in concert with your own?
